Things to Do In Austin

There's plenty to do in Austin. Here are just a handful of ideas to help you explore the fastest-growing city in Texas.

  • Take a stroll down South Congress

Located just south of downtown and Lady Bird Lake, South Congress Avenue is one of the most popular spots in Austin. You can have dinner at Home Slice Pizza, Perla's, or Vespaio, find a new piece of art at Yard Dog, and try on some new boots at Allen's Boots. All in a few blocks.

  • Eat some Texas BBQ

Texas barbecue is legendary, and Austin has been at the forefront of a nationally recognized resurgence. The James Beard award-winning Franklin leads the pack, with La Barbecue and Micklethwait Craft Meats not too far behind.

  • Learn the history of the Lone Star State

We’re Texas, and we’re proud of it. Historical individuals and events have shaped the state. You can learn all about Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, the Texas Rangers (not the baseball team) and The Alamo at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Want more? Take a tour of the Texas State Capitol.

  • Go for a cool dip in a natural spring

Located on the grounds of Zilker Park is Barton Springs Pool, the fourth largest spring in Texas. With its spring-fed waters, the pool maintains a year-round 68° temperature. Just west-northwest of Barton Springs Pool is Deep Eddy Pool, the oldest swimming pool in Texas. Both are great for a swim or an afternoon of relaxation.

  • Catch a live music show

Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World, and with good reason -- the city boasts more live music venues than any other city in the nation. Catch a live show at ACL Live, Stubbs, Emo's, or Antone's.

  • Find your way around

Austin is not a big city, and getting around couldn’t be easier when using one of many available transportation options: car service, cabs, shuttles, buses and trains, and ride-hailing services like Fasten and Ride Austin.
