Lead User Experience Designer | Austin, TX
Why do you love working at Bazaarvoice?
I really enjoy collaborating with the engineers on my product team. Our conversations center around how cool we can make things, which says a lot about their skill level and confidence. As a designer, it’s really fun to work with so many smart, creative people.
What differentiates Bazaarvoice from other companies?
R&D is very flexible. Each product team establishes whatever workflow makes sense to them. This is really nice. In my view, mature, goal-oriented teams can adapt their processes to best utilize resources and assets..
What is your proudest accomplishment at Bazaarvoice?
I’m proud of Curations 3, our redesign of the Curations admin experience. This project has given me the opportunity to wear multiple design hats along the product lifecycle, from researcher to UI designer to analyst. It has also been a wonderfully collaborative experience, both with end-users and internal stakeholders.
Tell us about some of your roles at Bazaarvoice
I began working for Bazaarvoice in January of 2007. At the time, BV was a start-up, and I was one of two jack-of-all trades designers. As we grew, I went on to establish the UI design role in our Client Services team. That team grew into its own organization, and I moved into product design. Now I am the lead UX designer for Curations.
What extra-curricular tech activities do you participate in?
I avoid tech outside of work. Gasp After many years of working 60+ hours every week, I realized how counterproductive that is. The quality of my work is much better now that I’m eating well, getting plenty of sleep and exercise, and letting my brain think of other things. Stress-management recharges my creative battery so that when I am working, I’m full of ideas and having fun.
It's just such a great experience because you bring all these great minds together and say, "Okay, what cool stuff can you go make?"
What are your hobbies?
Oh man. I LOVE cycling. I ride my bike 120 mi/week, on average. I’m a total Strava junkie. I also enjoy writing music, making art, inventing vegan cupcake recipes… I also teach free community yoga classes. Life is good.
