Dell IdeaStorm Goes Full Circle

When Dell launched their IdeaStorm site several months ago (a move that we at Bazaarvoice applauded!), one customer post quickly rose to the top of the rankings and still holds the #1 spot.  Other IdeaStorm users quickly piled on, supporting the call for a pre-installed Linux option on new Dell machines.  Well it seems that the feedback made it to the right people at Dell, because according to Boing Boing, Dell will begin offering pre-installed Ubuntu Linux.  What a great example of a company (a $57 billion global enterprise, no less) actually listening and taking action on the voice of its customers!  GO DELL!

    Yes, IdeaStorm is amazing and Dell has certainly set a new tragectory for itself. If they can figure out how to recover some of the market they are losing to retail giant (HP/Compaq) maybe they will begin to pick up some forward momentum. And with a completely new management team in place, their Linux/IdeaStorm connection could really make a difference.

    Brant, I was invited to participate in the IdeaStorm beta, before it went public. I agree that Dell has really distinguished the company with this forward-looking microsite project.

    BTW, several of the lower-ranked ideas are targeted at enhancing business processes and associated services — i.e. not related to specific Dell products.
